Pakistan unveiled their fresh jerseys for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 on Monday. Players proudly showcased their team jerseys, generating buzz on social media platforms. However, an interesting observation caught the eye of fans and observers alike – the absence of the host country’s name beneath the prominent Asia Cup logo.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has stepped forward to provide clarification regarding the noticeable absence of Pakistan’s logo on the jerseys meant for the Asia Cup. PCB sources shed light on the decision-making process, revealing that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had collectively chosen not to feature the host country’s name on jerseys during the previous edition of the Asia Cup. This choice was unanimously agreed upon within the ACC. Furthermore, it was also decided not to incorporate the year alongside the host country’s name.

This deliberate choice was motivated by the presence of logos with varying information from the previous Asia Cup editions. Logos displaying “Sri Lanka 2022,” “UAE 2022,” and others with just the year “2022” caused confusion and inconsistency. The primary aim was to establish a uniform and consistent approach to the tournament logo for improved brand representation. The absence of the host country’s name and year on this year’s jerseys has been evident right from the outset of the schedule announcement.

An official from the PCB elaborated, “As previously discussed, we made a deliberate decision during the last Asia Cup not to include the year and host name in the tournament logo. This was due to the presence of multiple logos circulating, one featuring Sri Lanka 2022, another with UAE 2022, and one with only the year 2022. Our aim was to ensure consistency in our approach for a more effective logo outreach.”

The PCB official also offered insights into the tournament’s nomenclature. The official stated, “Nevertheless, it’s important to mention that the tournament’s nomenclature will follow the format of ‘Gender-Format-Tournament Name-Year, City, Country.’ For matches held in Multan, the stadium branding will read: ‘Men’s ODI Asia Cup 2023 – Multan, Pakistan.’”
