Williamson will be confined to a batsman-only role in today’s initial warm-up match against Pakistan in Hyderabad, with the intention of returning to full batting and fielding capabilities during Monday’s second and final warm-up game against South Africa in Trivandrum.

Regrettably, Williamson will be absent from the highly anticipated rematch of the 2019 final against England. Coach Gary Stead has emphasized the need to prioritize Williamson’s progress toward a complete return to match fitness.

Coach Stead affirmed, “Right from the outset, we’ve adopted a long-term perspective regarding Kane’s return to active play. His recovery is proceeding positively, and our primary focus is to ensure that he can withstand the demands and intensity of international cricket.”

“We will continue to approach Kane’s rehabilitation on a day-by-day basis and will not exert any undue pressure on his return until he is fully prepared,” Stead stated.

Speaking to the media prior to his departure for India earlier in the week, Williamson mentioned experiencing minimal discomfort in the recovering joint. He noted, “There’s not a significant amount of discomfort, although the workload will gradually increase, introducing an element of uncertainty. However, over the past few weeks, it has been feeling quite good, and I’m hopeful that it will continue to improve.”
