Afif Hossain, the Bangladeshi cricketer, had to miss the Global T20 League in Canada due to visa issues, preventing him from traveling to the country. Despite obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the 23-year-old encountered complications with his visa, which resulted in his withdrawal from the franchise tournament.

“Afif was granted an NOC, but he couldn’t travel due to visa-related complications,” revealed a source from the BCB to The Daily Star.

Afif was all set to represent Surrey Jaguars alongside Liton Das in the tournament. The team is currently in contention for the playoffs, holding a top-four position in the standings with two games remaining.

Following Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das, Afif Hossain, another talented Bangladesh cricketer, is set to join the Global T20 League in Canada. The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Cricket Operations committee chairman, Jalal Yunus, confirmed that Afif has been granted a no objection certificate (NOC) and will depart for Canada on Sunday to participate in the league.

Afif will represent Surrey Jaguars, alongside Liton Das. However, if the team fails to qualify for the play-off stage, Afif will only get to play the remaining two group matches.

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan, the Tigers’ Test and T20I skipper, will leave for Sri Lanka today to take part in the Lankan Premier League, having featured for Montreal Tigers in the Global T20 League.

As of now, Surrey Jaguars holds the third position in the points table, with their next two matches scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. The final is slated for August 6.

The Bangladesh team’s skill camp for the upcoming Asia Cup is scheduled to begin on August 8 after a fitness camp, which starts tomorrow.

Although both Afif and Liton will miss the fitness camp, they are expected to join the skill camp later.

On the other hand, Mushfiqur Rahim and Taskin Ahmed will return from featuring in the Zim-Afro T10 League and join the camp. However, pacer Shoriful Islam and Shakib will join the camp later due to their commitments in the LPL.

Additionally, young cricketer Towhid Hridoy was also signed by Jaffna Kings in the LPL, but he will only be available for the first three games of the tournament.

However, despite his decent performance, why was he overlooked for the 26-member camp? Does this absence from a crucial training camp in a World Cup year indicate that Mahmudullah’s time in the Bangladesh team is coming to an end?

Further investigation revealed that Mahmudullah had requested leave for the Hajj pilgrimage. His leave is scheduled from 22 June to 5 July, coinciding with the start of the series against Afghanistan. Consequently, it appears unlikely that Mahmudullah will be able to participate in the home series.

The brilliant form of Mushfiqur and Towhid has thus far prevented Yasir Ali from securing a spot in the middle order.
